Campaigns - Adopt a School - Banner

Each day, students in Gaza face the negative effects of poverty, prolonged conflict, and the ongoing blockade. For this reason, AFU developed the Adopt a School Campaign as a way to increase the quality and accessibility of education at UNRWA schools in Gaza. The campaign can be broken down into two critical components: Emergency School Feeding and general support.

Emergency School Feeding

63% of Gaza's population is food insecure or vulnerable to food insecurity. As part of its Emergency Appeal, UNRWA introduced the Emergency School Feeding Program to provide nutritious school lunches, snacks, and evening meal parcels to its students in Gaza. For many children in Gaza, school feeding provides their largest single source of calories for the day. Over 221,000 school children depend on the program for the nutrition necessary for healthy mental and physical development.

General Support

Donors can provide general support to an UNRWA elementary school by “adopting” a student or class. Donations provide students with school supplies, uniforms, hygiene kits, daily lunches, meal parcels (to be taken home), health and human rights courses, and special education services.
