Exactly one year ago, the world watched as Gaza was bombed into rubble and the death tolls of civilians–children, women, and men alike–rose steadily throughout a 51-day assault. Although no longer captured in the headlines, Gaza’s situation today is worse off than before.

The extremity of the situation makes it absolutely vital that the world understand what’s currently taking place in Gaza.

2,251 Palestinians in Gaza were killed last summer–551 were children. Aside from these horrific numbers and the inherent tragedy of lives full of potential lost senselessly, those struggling with the aftermath of the conflict have gotten little international attention or support. The world may have stopped watching as the bombs stopped falling, but Palestinians in Gaza were left with obstacles that are nearly impossible to overcome and a stark feeling that they’ve been abandoned in their plight.

But why? What obstacles do Palestine refugees face one year after the brutal Israeli assault?

One year later, not a single totally destroyed home has been rebuilt.

One year later, nearly 100% of children are still in need of immediate counseling due to ongoing trauma and haunted memories from the war.

One year later, unemployment is at a shocking 43%. And yet that’s not even the worst of it: youth unemployment has soared to over 60%.

One year later, families break fast for another Ramadan in the rubbled remainders of their homes.

One year later, 39% of the population falls below the poverty line.

We remain committed to advocating for the basic human rights and dignity of Palestine refugees in Gaza–but we need YOUR help. In one year we haven’t gotten far enough in securing livelihoods for those whose lives were destroyed by a war that was out of their control. Starting NOW, help us show the world that lives in Gaza matter.
