Hey there, Tumblr!  Since we’re new here, we wanted to introduce ourselves! We’re UNRWA USA–a 501c3 nonprofit in the United States that aims to raise awareness and funds for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (a mouthful, we know!). Our plan is to use Tumblr to bring you a whole lot of exciting and informative content about Palestine refugees, and to inspire you to join us in our mission. We want to showcase the extraordinary resilience of these refugees across the Middle East region–whether it be the Bedouins currently facing displacement in the West Bank or innocent children fleeing the violence in Syria to take their exams. There’s a lot of work to be done. From the blockade in Gaza to the endless restrictions on Palestinians in Lebanon, the challenges faced by UNRWA refugees today are as pressing as they were in 1948 when the crisis began. These staggering numbers speak to the depth of the situation: 1,258,559 Palestine refugees in Gaza 762,288 in the West Bank 526,722 in Syria 449,957 in Lebanon 2,097,338 in Jordan But Palestine refugees are more than just numbers and statistics. They are mothers, fathers, children, students who dream of a better future, business owners with hope for a better life, teachers, farmers, fishermen. They want to laugh, spend time with their families and see the world, just like you and me. We’re excited to use the opportunity of World Refugee Day (#WorldRefugeeDay) for you to get to know us and who we’re standing up for. Tomorrow, you’ll meet Palestine refugees from all five fields UNRWA operates in and understand not only their hardships, but their common humanity. Tune in starting at 10am tomorrow, June 20th, and get ready to be inspired by the courage and hope of some amazing individuals. See you then!
