This Privacy Policy is meant to help you understand what information UNRWA USA may collect (on our website unrwausa.org, mobile applications, social media sites, any other digital services and platforms officially operated or used by UNRWA USA, and any information you provide to us offline), why we collect it, and how you can update or request removal of your information.

Collection of Personal Data

In order to process credit card transactions online it is necessary to collect certain information. The name of the donor, the address of the donor, the credit card number, credit card expiration date, credit card security code, and the amount of the donation are required to process any transaction. We do not store card numbers and never request sensitive information such as social security numbers.

In addition, UNRWA USA collects a telephone number and an email address from those individuals agreeing to provide them in case we must contact donors because of an inaccurate name, credit card number, or expiration date. Failure to provide a telephone number or email address may result in a donation not being posted.

Further, UNRWA USA collects a mailing address from individuals willing to provide one. We send periodic correspondence regarding our events, fundraising campaigns, and current events involving Palestine refugees.

We may also solicit for funds to support specific UNRWA USA programs in these mailings. We also use email and mailing addresses to provide acknowledgment of all contributions. We also use mailing addresses to provide written acknowledgments of contributions. The IRS will disallow any charitable contributions of $250 or more that is not substantiated by a “contemporaneous written acknowledgment.” In order to best serve our donors, UNRWA USA provides these acknowledgments.

If at any time a donor wishes to have his or her name and personal information deleted from our records or if a donor would like to make changes to their personal information, including his or her name, address, phone number, email address, credit card information, etc., we comply as quickly as possible. To make changes to your database record please send an email or call (202) 223-3767.

Disclosure to Third Party

UNRWA USA will not sell, rent, or trade a donor’s information with any organization, nor will we send mailings on behalf of other organizations. UNRWA USA may share limited donor information with UNRWA to ensure compliance with UN regulations.

Information security and quality

UNRWA USA intends to protect the quality and integrity of our supporters’ personally identifiable information. We have implemented appropriate physical, technical, and organizational measures, such as using industry-accepted encryption for transmission of credit card information, to help keep your information secure, accurate, current, and complete. Classy, our online donation processor, uses Level 1 PCI compliance and SSL Security, built on Amazon Web Services.

You can recognize secure web pages by checking for the secure symbol by the URL in the address bar on your browser screen. For most browsers, this symbol is either a lock or a key. When the lock or key symbol appears the page is secure. When the lock or key is not evident, the page is insecure.

UNRWA USA protects all paper files as well. Any personal information recorded on a paper file is secured in a locked facility at all times. Only one permanent full-time staff member has access to the files.
